For the Philadelphia Union, the search for a sporting director is over, although the club isn’t quite ready to name a replacement for Earnie Stewart, who left to become the general manager of the US national team.

While Stewart officially starts today, the Union issued a press release that they have “identified and agreed to terms with our chosen candidate” after an exhaustive two-month search during which multiple candidates were interviewed and vetted.
All that is left is finalizing a contract with the yet-to-be-named candidate, which will be followed by a formal announcement. In the meantime, sporting decisions “will be made by members of the Union’s existing technical staff, who have been preparing for this transition and are evaluating transfer window opportunities.”
