Chicago Fire defender Johan Kappelhof was involved in a car crash on Thursday morning, according to a report from NBC’s Chicago affiliate.
According to the report, Kappelhof, on his way to Fire training, was in one of two cars hit by a box truck, with two people in the truck fleeing on foot from the scene before both were apprehended.
Kappelhof was taken to a hospital reportedly in good condition, and NBC Chicago 5 reported that the Fire confirmed the defender was treated and released from the hospital on Thursday, and did not suffer any serious injuries.
The Dutch defender, 27, has made 16 appearances in league play to date this season. All told, in his three seasons with Chicago, Kappelhof has made 82 appearances in MLS regular season play, as well as one MLS Cup Playoffs appearance.
