Palace offer Zaha huge deal amid Spurs interest
Crystal Palace will offer attacker Wilfried Zaha a lucrative new deal to fend off interest from Tottenham, the Mirror reports.
Spurs have long been keen on Zaha, but Palace will shell out more than £120,000 a week to persuade him to stay in South London, which is “believed to be more than their London rivals would be willing to pay him.”
Ivory Coast international Zaha starred as Palace avoided relegation from the Premier League and, although he signed a £100,000-a-week deal last year, the Eagles are poised to improve his terms once more.
Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked with potential moves for him.
City closing in on Jorginho switch
Manchester City hope to wrap up a £46.5 million move for Napoli midfielder Jorginho by the end of the week, according to Sky Sports.
Earlier this month, the switch appeared in danger of falling through — with City looking to Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic or Southampton’s Mario Lemina instead — amid deadlock over a fee.
Sources told ESPN FC that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis was “holding out for around £60m,” which the Premier League champions believed was too steep.
But now Sky says “the final details are being sorted,” although it warns that sell-on payments to Jorginho’s old club Verona are “a sticking point.”
Meanwhile, Leicester will demand a straight cash bid from City for playmaker Riyad Mahrez after agreeing a deal for Norwich’s James Maddison, the Mirror reports.
It had previously been thought that Leicester would ask for City forward Patrick Roberts as part of a Mahrez move but, after committing to pay up to £25m for England under-21 international Maddison, that has changed.
The Mirror says the Foxes “are splashing out now in expectation of Mahrez completing a big-money move to City, and Roberts is no longer part of the equation.”
Cech future in doubt as Arsenal’s Emery must sell
With goalkeeper Bernd Leno signed and midfielder Lucas Torreira on the verge of joining Arsenal, coach Unai Emery will have to sell before making any more additions, the London Evening Standard reports.
It says Emery “has been told he has a restricted budget and will need to offload players to boost the funds available to him.”
The arrival of Leno from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen could mean the end of the road at the Emirates for Petr Cech or David Ospina, with the Standard reporting that Napoli “are interested in taking Cech to Serie A.”
Tap-ins
– Newcastle have been offered Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge but are unlikely to sign him after he turned down a loan move last season, according to the Chronicle.
The Merseysiders want £15m for Sturridge, reported to be interesting Sevilla, but the report says Rafa Benitez “has other priorities” and the loan falling through “hasn’t been forgotten.”
– Huddersfield have offered Brugge £13m for winger Anthony Limbombe, the Mail reports.
Limbombe, 23, had interested Southampton and Newcastle, along with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, and was a target for Leeds last season.
