Sports broadcaster Eleven Sports has secured live and exclusive Portuguese rights to France’s Ligue 1 Conforama football tournament.
The deal boosts Eleven’s rights portfolio in Portugal following the platform’s entry into the market in May with the acquisition of rights to the UEFA Champions League and LaLiga.
The three-year partnership includes rights to Coupe de la Ligue, the French League Cup, and Trophee des Champions, the annual match between the champions of Ligue 1 and the winners of the Coupe de France.
Ligue 1 features Portuguese players João Moutinho of AS Monaco and Anthony Lopes of Olympique Lyonnais, both of whom are part of Portugal’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.
Eleven recently agreed a carriage deal with Portuguese cable operator Nowo for its channels.
“Everything we do is to create maximum value for the fans. We are fully committed to bring Portuguese football fans the best product in the market, including the best players, clubs and leagues.” said Danny Menken, group managing director, Eleven Sports. “Adding Ligue 1 on top of UEFA Champions League and LaLiga means that Eleven Sports is rapidly establishing itself as the leading player in the sports media market in Portugal. We look forward to continue building our fan centric proposition and will announce further premium rights soon.”
