Manchester United ‘offered PSG star Marco Verratti’ after talks with new boss Thomas Tuchel

MANCHESTER UNITED are said to have been offered the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti.

Italian playmaker Verratti has been expected to play a leading role with the French champions under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

But it has been claimed in Italy that a meeting between the 25-year-old and Tuchel did not go as well as had been anticipated.

And Calciomercato now say it has led to the player’s agent Mino Raiola contacted United to offer them the chance to sign him.

The report claims Verratti met with former Borussia Dortmund manager Tuchel to discuss his plans for the coming season.

The German has been appointed as successor to Unai Emery, charged with turning PSG into genuine contenders to win the Champions League.

And the 44-year-old, who is known to be strict in the fitness regimes of his players, appears to have upset Verratti with his views on his shape.

It is been claimed that the playmaker, regarded as one of the best creative talents in Europe, was told he needed to lose weight and improve his overall fitness levels.

The shock verdict has not gone down well with the Italian international, or his agent Raiola who appears to have quickly gone to work sounding out potential moves.

The article suggests the controversial transfer fixer has approached four of Europe’s biggest clubs to offer Verratti’s services, including United.

Barcelona are said to have declined the offer immediately, while Real Madrid and Juventus both said they were not in a position to make a bid.

But it has been claimed United boss Jose Mourinho is considering testing PSG by making an offer for his services.

United’s relationship with Raiola is a close one, having worked together on deals to sign Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are other players the agent has taken to Old Trafford in recent years.

But Juan Mata could find himself surplus to requirements if a player like Verratti could be obtained.
