Stephan Lichtsteiner joins Arsenal on a free transfer and becomes the first signing for Unai Emery at his new club.
Arsenal have held “concrete talks” with Freiburg about a move for centre-back Caglar Soyuncu but have yet to agree a fee, the player’s agent has said.
Mustafa Dogru told Turkish Football that Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has been tracking Soyuncu and the Gunners are keen on a move for the 22-year-old Turkey international.
“Sven is interested in Caglar — there are concrete talks, and all that remains is for a fee to be agreed,” Dogru said.
“There are four Premier League sides who’ve made a move for Soyuncu that we are in talks with. There is also interest from Atletico Madrid in Spain and a few clubs in France, Italy and Germany.
“I’m not surprised by the interest — Caglar is a modern defender, he’s mobile, fast, dual-footed, has an excellent passing range.
“He’s tough and very physical, and I think the Premier League is ideal for a defender with his attributes.”
Soyuncu could become the second centre-back signed by Arsenal this summer, with a deal for Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos expected to be finalised shortly.
The Gunners have also brought in right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus as new head coach Unai Emery revamps a defence that struggled last season.
