The president of Mediapro says the company plans to launch a dedicated Ligue 1 channel following its successful bid for the football rights.
Mediapro beat Canal+ to the rights to matches from 2020-2024.
The new channel will air both live games as well as highlights from Ligue 1 every week. It’s expected to be made available to all TV operators in France.
Jaume Roures, founder and president of Mediapro, said the channel should cost subscribers around €25: “We are not going to make a channel at €50 or €100, we would not have subscribers,” he said at a press conference in Paris.
Roures said Mediapro believes it could attract up to five million subscribers in “three or four years.”
He also said the company could look to boost their football offering with other French leagues as well as games from other countries.
