Barcelona edged past Real Sociedad 1-0 in legendary midfielder Andres Iniesta’s final game for the club on Sunday.
The Spain international, who served as captain on the day, ended a 22-year association with the club in Barcelona’s final match of the season which was decided by a Philippe Coutinho goal in the 57th minute.
Barcelona won the La Liga title late last month and saw their hopes of an undefeated league season ended seven days ago. So Sunday’s match marked a celebration of the brilliant career of the two-time European and one-time world champion playmaker’s brilliant time with the Blaugrana.
The Barca No. 8 was brought off to a standing ovation in the 82th minute with supporters singing his name as he headed off the field for the 674th and final time of his career in a Barcelona shirt.
He was replaced by reserve forward Paco Alcacer.
Lionel Messi, who was sat out of last week’s loss, started from the bench but came on as substitute for Coutinho in the 67th minute.
