Arsenal to make move for 26-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder

The Mail Online has last night reported that OGC Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri is being targeted by new Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

Welcome to Arsenal

After what seems like an age, Arsenal have finally announced that their new manager and man to replace club legend Arsene Wenger will be Unai Emery.

Arsenal made the official announcement via their Twitter earlier today.

New signings

Now that Emery has officially been named Arsenal boss, there is no doubt he will be keen to start putting his own personal touch on this Arsenal side.

Plus, given Arsenal’s poor performances in recent years, which eventually lead to Wenger’s departure, it is clear this Arsenal side is in need of a serious overhaul.

And at the moment, Jean-Michael Seri looks set to become Emery’s first signing as Arsenal boss.

Interest from elsewhere

During his time at Nice Seri has attracted several big clubs who have attempted to pry him away from the French side.

One of which was PSG this past January when now Arsenal boss Emery was still in charge. So, it is clear Emery is a big fan of Seri’s and given Arsenal need a huge overhaul at the club, Emery will likely push hard to sign the Ivory Coast international this summer.

Arsenal’s midfield

Arsenal’s central midfield has had its problems for some years now. England and Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere is often sidelined through injury meaning Arsenal are often a man short in their midfield anyway.

Furthermore, Granit Xhaka, who signed for Arsenal for around £40 million, has proven to be somewhat of a flop.

Xhaka has looked awful in countless games this season for the Gunners and if they do wish to fight for a Champions League place this summer, they need someone a lot more consistent than Xhaka in the centre of the park.

Seri could certainly be that man and he also has a pretty low release clause of £35 million, which isn’t bad in today’s market.
