For the first time ever, Ukraine’s capital Kyiv will host the final matches of the Union of European Football Associations, or UEFA, women’s and men’s Champions League, annual football competitions for Europe’s top soccer clubs.
The final of the men’s competition off on May 26, as Spain’s Real Madrid and England’s Liverpool vie for the prestigious European soccer trophy. The country’s main stadium, the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex, is expected to host over 70,000 soccer fans from around the globe who will come to watch the match.
To be able to host so many people, the NSC Olimpiyskiy’s staff has been making minor preparations for the last six months, and it opened the doors to journalists to see how well the soccer pitch is being prepared for the big match.
The women’s final match between Germany’s Wolfsburg and French club Lyon will be played at the Valeriy Lobanovskyi Dynamo Stadium in Kyiv two days earlier, on May 24.
