Ligue1.com – Amiens see off Metz

Amiens SC rounded off their home campaign with a 2-0 win over relegated FC Metz on Saturday that gives them hope of finishing in the top half of the Ligue 1 Conforama table.

 Amiens SC 2-0 FC Metz

THE MATCH
Amiens, promoted last season for their very first top-flight campaign, had already assured their Ligue 1 Conforama status for next term, and were determined to give the Stade de la Licorne crowd something to cheer.

Metz had not kept a clean sheet in their last 15 league matches, and Amiens quickly ensured that sorry run would be extended. Moussa Konaté went down in the penalty box as he sought to get on the end of a Harrison Manzala cross — the would-be provider stepped up to fire past Thomas Didillon from the spot (21′).

The experienced Renaud Cohade was fortunate not to see red in the first half, and was soon substituted as the visitors, already relegated before kick-off, looked as if they might lost their heads as well as the game.

The half-time interval steadied them, however, and Florent Mollet even brought a fine save from Régis Gurtner, who flew full-length to keep out the Metz man’s free-kick (63′).

Bakaye Dibassy’s backheel allowed Konaté to volley just wide (64′) before Vahid Selimovic’s own-goal wrapped up the hosts’ win — their second in a four-game unbeaten run — as the Metz centre-back deflected Gaël Kakuta’s shot into the net (86′).

THE PLAYER: Moussa Konaté
The Senegal international has really taken to life in Ligue 1 Conforama this season, and though he didn’t find the net to add to his 12 top-flight strikes, he was a constant menace.

THE STAT: 1
Amiens are the first team enjoying their maiden top-flight season to have secured their survival since Evian-Thonon-Gaillard in 2011/12.
