Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero this summer, sources have told ESPN FC.

Reports in Spain claim that Barcelona are close to completing a deal for Atletico’s French forward Antoine Griezmann at season’s end and the La Liga club will consider a move for former player Aguero as his replacement.

Club sources insist they have no interest in trying to sign a new striker in the summer, with City happy with their options of Aguero and Gabriel Jesus after the pair helped them to the Premier League title and Carabao Cup.

Aguero, who turns 30 next month, left Atletico for City in 2011 and has gone on to become the club’s record goalscorer with 199 goals.

He has two years remaining on his current contract and has previously said that he would like to return to his first club, Independiente in Argentina, after his contract expires in 2020.

Despite not starting a game since March because of injury, Aguero has 30 goals in all competitions this season, including 15 from 13 starts since the turn of the year.

In January, the Argentinian insisted he was happy at City but said it was up to the club if they decided to sell him.

Meanwhile, sources have told ESPN FC that City face a battle from their title rivals in the race for Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

The newly-crowned champions are leading the chase for the Brazilian-born Italian international, who is valued at around £50m.

City are after a replacement for Yaya Toure, whose contract expires at the end of the season, but Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are all believed to be interested in a move for Jorginho.
