Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has backtracked on recent comments suggesting he was open to a transfer and said he is “not thinking at all about a move.”
Germany international Boateng, who joined the club from Manchester City in 2011 and has won trophies including six Bundesliga titles and a Champions League, is under contract until 2021.
Last month the 29-year-old said he could opt for a change, but speaking as Bayern unveiled their new kit for next season he played down speculation that he wanted a new challenge.
“I simply said that, at a certain age, you consider these things,” he said.
“I’m very happy and feel absolutely at home at Bayern. At the moment I’m not thinking at all about a move.
“I just wanted to get fit, stay fit and play in the World Cup. I’m very happy at Bayern at the moment.”
Boateng said he was confident he would return to action in Russia after suffering a thigh injury as Bayern lost at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals.
“I’m doing much better and am right on track,” he said. “I hope to make more progress in the coming days.
“I don’t believe I’m in danger of missing the World Cup, but I need to be patient. Of course I will not take any risks and come back too early.
“Both the national team coach [Joachim Low] and the team doctor [Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt] know precisely that it’s my aim to go and that it’s also totally realistic.”
