Portland Timbers defender Zarek Valentin gets injured on goal celebration

You never expect to see team training staff running onto the field in order to tend to an injured player … after a goal celebration.

In MLS Week 10 that exact scenario unfolded at Avaya Stadium as Timbers fullback Zarek Valentin required heavy bandage treatment in the wake of the Diego Valeri goal that gave the Timbers a 1-0 win in San Jose.

An onrushing teammate, seeking to partake in the Timbers’ 88th-minute celebration accidentally bumped Valentin’s head into Valeri’s, apparently resulting in a cut that required medical attention.

Valentin was well enough after the match to make light of it after the match:
