Mohamed Salah spurned the best opening early on as Liverpool were held to a frustrating draw by relegation-threatened Stoke at Anfield. Although Jürgen Klopp made a number of changes to his starting XI, Salah and Roberto Firmino played the entire match but failed to prise the goal that would have lifted the Reds to second in the Premier League.

Patrik Schick scored for the second league game in succession to give the hosts an early fillip before Edin Džeko put the Giallorossi two up at the interval. Juan Jesus was sent off when conceding a penalty in the 56th minute but Alisson Becker saved Roberto Inglese’s spot kick. Roma made the visitors pay with further goals from Stephan El Shaarawy and Džeko’s 16th of the Serie A campaign.
