Deportivo La Coruna’s faint hopes of staying in LaLiga look all but over despite continuing their improved recent form with a goalless draw at Leganes.
Third-bottom Depor came into Friday night’s match having lost just one of their previous five fixtures – 1-0 at second-placed Atletico Madrid – but still seven points away from safety.
They managed to pick up another point at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque but, with their final four games of the season coming against top-10 sides Barcelona, Celta Vigo, Villarreal and Valencia, their four-year stay in the top flight appears set to end.
It might have been a different story on Friday had Lucas Perez managed to make the most of his three chances in the opening half-hour, but he could not beat Ivan Cuellar and Clarence Seedorf’s men would not come any closer.
Leganes also had their openings as they sought to arrest a run of three defeats in four games, but they could not find a way through either.
However, they now only need one more point to guarantee they will be playing top-flight football again next season.
