HNS Announces Friendly Matches Against Portugal and Jordan

More friendly matches have been announced for the Croatia national football team, and this time in preparation for the new Nations League.

The Croatian Football Federation has arranged two friendly matches as preparation for UEFA’s new Nations League competition, which they are obliged to play according to the rules of the European Football Federation. Croatia will visit Portugal in September 2018 and will host the Jordanian national team in October, announces HNS on April 16, 2018.

On September 6th, the Croatia national team will visit the current European champion, Portugal, five days before Croatia faces Spain in the first appearance of the new international competition, the Nations League.

This is not the first meeting between the two nations, as you might recall, and the defeat at the 2016 Euros might still sting for some. Thus far, Croatia and Portugal have played each other at the Euros in 1996 in England (0:3), in friendly matches in Coimbra (0:2) in 2005 and 2013 in Geneva (0:1) and at the Euros 2016 in France (0:1, extra time).

The Croatia national team has already played friendly matches with World Cup participants Peru and Mexico this year in the United States. In June, Croatia awaits five-time world champion Brazil in England (venue to be announced), and they will face Senegal, also a participant in this year’s World Cup, five days later at Osijek’s City Garden Stadium.

In addition to meeting Argentina in the group stage of the World Cup and the and the Nations League games against England and Spain, in 2018, Croatia will play at least six games with former world champions and at least eight matches with nations who have won continental titles (Brazil, Argentina, Spain , Peru, Mexico, Nigeria, Portugal).

HNS also agreed on opponents for their free term in October. Three days after a spectacular clash in Croatia with England in the Nations League, Zlatko Dalić’s men will play against Jordan. This meeting is scheduled for October 15th in Croatia and will be the first meeting of Croatia and the quarterfinalists of the 2004 and 2011 Asian Cup.
