Philadelphia Union 0, Orlando City SC 2 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

Orlando City SC rode two first-half goals to their first road win of the 2018 MLS regular season, as they defeated the Philadelphia Union 2-0 at Talen Energy Stadium on Friday.

The Union started in frisky fashion, but after a hot start they couldn’t convert their chances, and as the game wore on they became very much the second-best team on the night.

Dom Dwyer got Orlando City on the board in the 38th minute. The Lions had a good period of buildup play down the field, finished off by Dwyer making a run between the lines and beating Andre Blake. Shortly before halftime, rookie Chris Mueller doubled the lead with an impressive run and finish down the middle after pouncing on an errant clearance, and that was all it took to wrap up the win.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Orlando City are on a three-game winning streak now, and their early season problems appear to be in the rearview mirror. For the Union, it was another night of frustration at home, and their performance raises more questions than it answers.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Until Dwyer’s goal, the teams had exchanged chances and it looked like the game could go either way. But after Dwyer’s moment of magic, the game was effectively over.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Sacha Kljestan was influential in Orlando’s midfield, setting up Dwyer’s goal and showing his class in a strong road performance for the Lions.
