Alassane Plea’s eighth goal in the past five games was not enough for Nice, which conceded late on in a 1-1 draw at Angers in the French league on Friday.
The 25-year-old Plea, a quick and powerful striker, will be doubtless linked with a move in the summer transfer window. He read midfielder Jean Michael Seri’s clever pass and had enough strength to hold off a defender before sliding to poke the ball into the bottom corner in the 67th minute.
It was his 14th league goal of the season and moved him level as the club’s top scorer with Mario Balotelli, who did not play.
But with six minutes left, Angers equalized when midfielder Angelo Fulgini found the top right corner with a curling shot from about 12 yards (meters).
Seri almost won it for Nice with an injury-time free kick, but goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle did brilliantly to tip it over.
Nice is in sixth place, while Angers is 14th but well clear of the relegation zone.
Runaway leader Paris Saint-Germain can clinch the title by beating defending champion Monaco at home on Sunday. PSG has won four of the past five titles.
