HUNGARY have been fined £50,000 by UEFA following crowd trouble during their Euro 2016 game against Iceland on Saturday.
European football’s governing body said in a statement that the reason for the hefty financial penalty was due to “crowd disturbances, setting off of fireworks and throwing of objects”.
Police are looking into reports that some Hungarian fans were caught “performing Nazi salutes” at the match.
Following the Hungary crowd trouble against Iceland, their defender Richard Guzmics “encouraged” supporters to “behave” both inside and outside the stadium.
He said at a press conference: “We had many fans there yesterday.
“They were at the stadium during our game. There were maybe 20-25,000 of them. And they turned Marseille into a Hungarian city.
“I cannot really imagine anything bad that they could have done outside the stadium. But if they did, we encourage them to behave well outside and within the stadium next time.”
Hungary top Group F with four points, two ahead of Iceland and Portugal and one ahead of bottom-placed Austria.
Whoever finishes second in the group will go up against England in the round of 16 stage in Nice on Monday night.
