ARSENAL and Napoli are battling it out to sign highly-rated Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont, according to reports in France.
The stopper, 19, has been tipped to eventually replace Hugo Lloris in the national side.
He has been scouted by several of Europe’s biggest clubs following a string of impressive performances in Ligue 1.
And L’Equipe report Arsenal the latest side to register their interest as they look for a long-term No 1.
Pepe Reina is having a medical at AC Milan ahead of a free transfer in the summer, and that means Napoli are in the market for a new goalkeeper.
They are currently favourites to land Lafont.
Arsenal’s current first team goalkeepers, Petr Cech and David Ospina, have struggled for consistency and will need replacing sooner rather than later.
In the past, it was thought a goalkeeper wouldn’t reach their peak until their late 20s and early 30s.
CECH IT OUT Arsenal stopper Petr Cech finally notched his 200th Premier League clean sheet in 3-0 over Watford… but which shock name has the most top-flight shut-outs?
However, that perception appeared to change after Cech became title-winning Chelsea‘s No 1 at the age of 22 in 2004 and proved a superb acquisition.
Lafont already has 89 Ligue 1 appearances and has represented France at every age group from Under 16 to U-20.
