Liverpool this week welcome Manchester City to Anfield looking to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in a decade.

The Reds are the only team to beat City in the Premier League this season, a remarkable 4-3 victory in January, but will be aware of the need to build a firm first-leg advantage on home soil.

Both teams strolled into the quarter-finals, scoring a combined 10 goals against Porto and Basel in last-16 ties, but now face their toughest tests in Europe this season.

However, Joe Gomez (ankle) is expected to miss the game and the extent of Adam Lallana’s hamstring injury is yet to be determined.

John Stones (head), Fabian Delph (knock) and Sergio Aguero (knee) are all in contention to return for Manchester City, but Benjamin Mendy (knee) remains out.

Aymeric Laporte played left-back against Everton, and impressed, though Danilo will be pushing for a start should Delph not be fit to start.
