Romelu Lukaku has expressed his desire to rejoin Anderlecht after his time with Manchester United comes to an end.
Lukaku, who joined United from Everton in the summer on a £75 million transfer, visited Anderlecht’s training ground earlier this week and said that he would like to return to his boyhood club before his career is over.
“My dream was always to play for Anderlecht,” Lukaku said in a video recorded by the Belgian club, which he left for Chelsea in 2011.
“I will definitely return before the end of my career. I can already promise that. I had a wonderful time there.”
The Belgium international made his first-team debut for Anderlecht in 2009 and scored 23 goals in 76 appearances before moving to Chelsea and then to Everton in 2014.
He was expected to return to Chelsea in the summer before making the decision to instead reunite with Jose Mourinho in Manchester and has scored 20 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions this season.
“When [Manchester United] came calling, I didn’t have to think twice,” Lukaku told ESPN FC shortly after the transfer. “So I’m really delighted to hopefully be part of their history.”
