Club América captured the Liga MX Apertura title on Sunday night, winning the decisive second leg 2-0 against Mexico City rivals Cruz Azul.
The triumph means that Club América will face the future Liga MX Clausura champion (crowned in May 2019) in a single match that will determine the Mexican side that will go head-to-head against defending MLS Cup champions Atlanta United in the 2019 Campeones Cup on August 14 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The inaugural Campeones Cup in 2018 saw Mexico’s UANL Tigres defeat MLS side Toronto FC at BMO Field.
Las Aguilas can thank Edson Alvarez for their latest silverware after he scored both goals at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday. They were the only two goals of the two-leg series:
