Former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar says that Loris Karius deserves a “second chance” after his errors in the Champions League final.
Karius apologised for mistakes that directly led to two Real Madrid goals in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat in Kiev, Ukraine, last Saturday.
Grobbelaar won six league titles, three FA Cups and the 1984 European Cup during his 13 seasons at Anfield, and told BBC the Merseyside club stood by him through testing periods.
“They gave me two years of second chances, so why can’t they give him a second chance after one game?” he said. “They should keep him in the spotlight from next season. First game back, get him back as soon as possible.”
Liverpool missed out on the chance to secure their sixth European Cup in the Ukrainian capital, but Grobbelaar is confident his former team can reach the biggest game in club football again as long as further investment in the playing squad is made.
“Liverpool can win the Champions League next year but need two more players to add to the squad,” he added. “They need a centre-half and a striker.”
The Reds are reportedly continuing their pursuit of Lyon forward Nabil Fekir.
