Getafe coach Bordalas blasts reports around Angel; admits he could’ve joined Barcelona

Getafe coach Jose Bordalas admits he was resigned to losing Angel Rodriguez earlier this year.

The striker was wanted by Barca as an emergency signing before they landed Martin Braithwaite from Leganes.

Bordalas said, “There was a time when you all know that FC Barcelona was interested in Ángel and we couldn’t do anything when a powerful club comes and wants a player from your team. But yes, I did fear it.”

The Getafe coach admits Angel has been rocked to see his name linked to Spain’s match-fixing investigation.

He also told Radio Marca: “The boy was very affected yesterday. I spoke with him and he had a very bad night, because you appear on all the front pages because someone names you in a conversation, it was very, very bad. I have known him for many years, he is exceptional as a professional and teammate and I think that it is not fair.

“We did not like the news, because it can name anyone.”
