Barcelona know Article 17 option available to Neymar, but…

Barcelona are reluctant to invoke the FIFA Article 17 option to re-sign Neymar from PSG.

Barca have made PSG aware they’re keen to open talks about bringing back the Brazil international, having had two offers for the attacker rejected last summer.

It’s been suggested PSG would be willing to sell for around €150m – a fee which would suit Barca. However, there remains doubts PSG will hold to that price.

Should the goalposts be moved, there remains the option of Neymar invoking Article 17 and walking out on PSG this summer. The law allows a player to terminate his contract without just cause and despite not having a termination clause, as is the case of the Brazilian. This is allowed as long as he is over 28 years old and has already served three seasons at his club, conditions Ney will meet this summer.

Barca know the option is exists, but are reluctant to push for it and instead would prefer to negotiate a fee with PSG in good faith. However, should things turn ugly, Neymar can trigger Article 17, leaving PSG having to take the case to FIFA to rule on a fee for the Brazilian.
