The promising youngster made quite the impact after replacing the first-choice shot stopper to lead the Eredivisie giants the way
Ajax Under-19 goalkeeper Daan Reiziger single-handedly led the Amsterdam giants to the quarter-finals of the Uefa Youth League this week with a stunning substitute cameo against Atletico Madrid.
Reiziger had to settle for a spot on the bench in Tuesday evening’s encounter at De Toekomst, but head coach John Heitinga opted to bring his back-up goalkeeper on in the dying seconds of the game as he anticipated a penalty series with the score at 0-0.
The 18-year-old did not let his coach down as he saved Atletico’s first attempt from Ignacio Quintana Navarro. He was then beaten twice, before saving his second spot kick of the evening when he denied Fernando Medrano Gastanaga. There was still more to come, though, as he also parried Adrian Jose Cova Urbina’s attempt and then stepped up himself to decide the game with a well-placed shot into the top corner.
