Barcelona back in for Liverpool stars with ‘premium clause’ expired

Barcelona again have a clear run at Liverpool‘s best players with the Philippe Coutinho ‘premium clause’ now expired.

The Liverpool Echo says under the terms of Coutinho’s departure to Camp Nou, Barca had been forced to pay an additional €100million (£89 million) premium for any other Liverpool player they wanted before 2020.

Barcelona were unhappy with the terms negotiated by Liverpool‘s sporting director Michael Edwards and the deal effectively ended Barca’s future interest in anyone else in the Reds’ squad, until now.

However, there’s a confidence inside Liverpool that the lure of Barca is no longer so strong.

Since that specific detail was written in Coutinho’s exit, the Reds have flourished, winning the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup without the Selecao star.
