Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says they have big hopes for Frenkie de Jong.
Speaking with AP, the Barça chief wanted to highlight the quality of the young Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
“De Jong is going to establish an era of his own at Barcelona,” Bartomeu said of the former Ajax man, who is already a fans’ favourite at Camp Nou.
Bartomeu feels that De Jong is set to be one of the world’s greatest midfielders and that his style fits in perfectly with what is required at the Catalan club.
He also said, “This season we have brought in young players who have to help us get through those stages.
“We think that (coach Ernesto) Valverde is the ideal coach to lead this blending of a generation of players of a certain age who have been so successful with that of up-and-coming players.
“It is important to create this bond, this union, to make a new team and this new group that will carry Barca forward. And Valverde has this ability.”
