52′ BLOCK! Modric surges down the right inside channel and he cuts the ball back for Hazard to strike, but the Belgian takes a touch and then sees his strike closed down by Mechele.

51′ Carvajal has space on the right flank, but he floats his cross straight into the grasp of Mignolet. Madrid have to be better than that.

Zinedine Zidane will be furious with his side. They’ve been solid at the back in LaLiga for the past three matches, but have been cut open with ease by the Belgian outfit in the first half. They’ve lacked composure in the final third, and have to become clinical to avoid a second defeat on the bounce in the Champions League that could put their future in the competition in jeopardy.

Club Brugge are 45 minutes away from a famous result at the Bernabeu, leading Real Madrid 2-0 at the break. Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis has scored twice to put his side in command of the contest. His first goal needed VAR to overturn an incorrect offside decision against the Belgian outfit after the forward miscontrolled Percy Tau’s cross past Thibaut Courtois. Dennis’ second came from a mistake from Luka Modric, and he nearly lost his footing, but managed to right himself before clipping a strike into the net. Madrid have had chances at the other end, but Simon Mignolet produced a super save to deny Raphael Varane, while Toni Kroos has fired two attempts wide of the post.

45′ + 1′ Benzema almost works his through a crowd of defenders in the left inside channel in the Brugge box. Only a last-second intervention from Deli stops him finding a team-mate for a simple tap-in.

43′ Tau leads another break and he tries to send a cross-field pass towards Dennis. Varane manages to get his boot in the way to stop the counter. Madrid are all over the place at the back.

Modric gives the ball away straight Dennis and he breaks away through the middle. He almost loses his balance, but the forward just manages to keep his feet to lift a strike over Courtois into the net. A stunning scoreline.

38′ Vazquez miscues a strike on the edge of the box and it almost falls for Ramos. However, Mata does enough to nudge him off the ball.

36′ WIDE! Kroos has to score. Madrid hit the visitors on the counter and Benzema releases the German through in the box. He goes for the strike with his left foot towards the right bottom corner, only to guide his attempt wide of the post.

34′ SAVE! Diatta works the ball through to Tau in the final third. He strikes the ball first time across the face of goal from the right inside channel, but Courtois makes a solid stop.

32′ Hazard surges down the left flank and he looks for support in the middle. He offloads towards Vazquez, but Sobol times his challenge to perfection to break up the attack.

31′ Kroos tries to catch out Mignolet with quickly-taken free-kick, but the keeper controls the ball on his chest before claiming. The Belgian was not too impressed with that attempt.

30′ The Belgian outfit hold firm at the back, clearing the cross from Kroos with ease.

29′ Ramos wins a foul on the left flank going down under pressure from Diatta. Kroos will swing another delivery into the Brugge box.

28′ WHAT A SAVE! Varane powers a header towards the net from Kroos’ delivery from a corner on the right. The Frenchman rises to guide his header towards the net, but Mignolet produces an outstanding stop with his right hand before Deli clears the rebound.

26′ Benzema twists and turns in the final third and he wins a corner off the legs of Mechele. Madrid have to up the ante here.

25′ Madrid cannot threaten from the resulting corner and back come Brugge. The Belgian outfit play their way through Los Blancos’ backline. Tau tries to force a low ball across the face of goal from the right inside channel. Varane has to be alert to clear ahead of Dennis.

24′ WIDE! Deli clears a cross into the box from the left, but his header falls only as far as Kroos. The German lines up an effort on the volley, which takes a deflection off Mechele and travels inches wide of the post with Mignolet rooted to the spot.

23′ Brugge are asking a lot of questions of the Madrid defence. Diatta probes down the right flank and Nacho has to do well to clear his lines away from the winger.

21′ CLOSE! Carvajal opens up the Brugge defence down the left flank and he cuts the ball back to Modric in the box. The veteran midfielder fires a low strike towards the right bottom corner, but he places his effort inches past the post.

20′ Nacho offers an outlet down the left flank for Kroos, but he can only send his cross behind for a goal-kick. The Spaniard is not a natural left-back and it showed there.

19′ Tau is causing a host of problems for the Madrid backline and he wins a free-kick on the left flank as Carvajal brings him down.

17′ Hazard tries to force his way into the box down the left flank. He works the ball to Varane, who takes a shot on first time, only to fire wide of the post.

15′ The visitors find space through Dennis to exploit as the home side give the ball away, but Brugge are unable to capitalise.

13′ Madrid’s high line is almost exposed again by the visitors, but on this occasion Dennis is flagged offside.

11′ Courtois has problems at the back once again he comes for the ball and is stranded. Dennis tries to send it back into the middle, but Nacho is there to make the intervention.

He does not control it well, but fortunately for the forward it works for him. His miscontrol wrong foots Courtois and the ball creeps past the Belgian into the net.

9′ DISALLOWED GOAL! Dennis miscontrols the ball into the net from close range after latching on to Tau’s cross, but the goal is disallowed for offside. However, VAR wants a second look at the incident.

7′ The home side are struggling to move the ball with rhythm across the pitch. Madrid are lacking their usual vigour.

5′ WIDE! Kroos swings the corner in from the left flank and Benzema rises highest in the box, only to nod his attempt wide of the post.

5′ Benzema releases Nacho forward into the left inside channel and he tries to place a low cross towards the near post, but Rits is there on the slide to divert it behind.

2′ Tau tries to run away from Casemiro, but he gets pulled back by the midfielder. There’s no punishment other than a free-kick.

TEAM NEWS: Ricca has suffered an injury in the warm-up and is replaced by Sobol at left-back. Vossen comes on to the bench.

Real Madrid and Club Brugge last met in the European Cup in 1976-77, with the Belgian side progressing 2-0 on aggregate (W1 D1). However, Club Brugge were later eliminated in the quarter-final by Borussia Monchengladbach.

Club Brugge hammered Mechelen 5-0 on the road in domestic action last week, but they’ve still made changes to their side this evening. Ricca replaces Sobol at left-back, while Dennis gets the start ahead of David Okereke. Diagne has to settle for a place on the bench, despite scoring a brace in the victory.

Real Madrid have made two changes to their side from their goalless draw against Atletico Madrid at the weekend. Modric and Vazquez come into the side to replace Valverde and Bale. There’s no place for Bale even on the bench this evening as Isco comes back into te squad.

Brugge began their campaign with a draw at home against Galatasaray. Neither side was able to break the deadlock, forcing the Belgian outfit to settle for a point. Philippe Clement would have been eyeing a victory due to the tough matches ahead of his team, beginning tonight. They are unbeaten in all competitions this term, but their mettle will be put to the test by the quality of Madrid this evening.

Madrid’s campaign in Europe got off to the worst possible start, suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in their opener. Zinedine Zidane’s men were cut open at the back with ease as Angel di Maria scored a brace to haunt his former club. Los Blancos have bounced back in LaLiga, producing two victories over Sevilla and Osasuna and drawing the Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid on the road, keeping clean sheets in all three matches. Zidane will be demanding a clinical performance tonight from his team.
