Premier League Betting: Man City lead ante post handicap market

The Citizens retained their title last season but after being pushed all the way by Liverpool, it was Jurgen Klopp’s men who won the handicap market

The return of the Premier League is just around the corner and fans will be hoping for another entertaining season.

Manchester City pipped Liverpool to the title by just a single point in a race that went down to the final day, living up to expectations as ante post favourites.

However, backers of Jurgen Klopp’s men in the Handicap market still had cause for celebration as the +6 start afforded to Liverpool was enough to see them top the table in that particular metric.

To win this market, punters must back the team they think will top the table once all teams’ handicaps have been added to their final points total – offering a different way for users to get involved rather than just betting on the outright winner.

Last season saw City start with +0, meaning their final tally of 98 points remained the same, but Liverpool’s +6 boost to their 97 propelled them above the champions.

That was a 15/1 (16.0) shot with bet365 and this season the Reds have been shaved to +4, with all teams again available at 15/1 (16.0) with the online bookmaker. City, unsurprisingly, start with +0.

Such was the gap between those two sides and the other top-six teams, bet365 have opted to give Tottenham the third-biggest handicap at +13. Last season saw Manchester United given +9, the third biggest.

Of the remaining top-six sides, Arsenal ended up the closest to Liverpool last term, although their total tally of 86 (including a +16 handicap) was still some way behind the Reds.

This campaign sees the Gunners given +20, with Unai Emery’s side having yet to address their defensive issues. Chelsea are +16, with Manchester United also given the same handicap.

Watford ended up third in the handicap table last season, with their tally of 50 points boosted by +45. They are available at +43 this time around and could prove a shrewd choice for punters looking further down the table.

Everton are a +31 shot, with the bookmaker expecting them to significantly improve on last season where they finished 44 points behind the champions.
