Girona coach Michel: Reaching Champions League would be dream come true

Girona coach Michel retains hope of qualifying for the Champions League.

The Catalans’ top four hopes remain alive as they face Cadiz this weekend.

Michel said: “For me, we have to play a great game to win. But the most important thing is performance. The pressure is for both of us, but it is different. For me it is more difficult to play to avoid relegation than for the Champions League. We both need the three points and, for us, it is a very important game. We have to show our best version.

“Tomorrow is at home and it is very important to give continuity to the position we are in and take an important step towards qualifying for the Champions League because the rivals are going to be there.

“It is vital that we add at home, but also away because the added bonus of adding away gives you a lot of energy. The important thing is that tomorrow we have unconditional support and that we all go in the same direction.

“We are going to show that we want to be among the top four.”

On the Champions League, he added: “It’s a dream. I was in Montjuïc watching the Barça game against PSG and it was a spectacular atmosphere. Perhaps it is the best scenario in which a coach can be and for me it is a dream that I think we are capable of achieving. I have seen all the games on TV, I have not put myself in this situation because it is not done, but it is a special dream.”
