Laporta tribute as Romeu resigns as Barcelona financial vice-president

Eduard Romeu has resigned as Barcelona‘s financial vice-president.

Romeu went to president Joan Laporta’s house to announce his intention to resign from his position. Romeu explained it was impossible for him to combine the role with his new business project (medical consulting).

He asked the president to make it “easy” for him and he agreed although he tried to keep him until the end of the season. But it was not possible because Romeu needs to dedicate all his time and energy to his new professional work.

“We don’t get paid from the club. So you have to start projects, and starting them is difficult. This vice presidency requires absolute dedication that does not allow me to combine it,” said Romeu.

At his departure ceremony, Laporta also stated: “All of us board members are very grateful to you. You have been a key person in the economic rescue of Barça, in the financial recovery of the club. You have done a great job on the feasibility plan. Week after week, you have been at the work of reducing expenses.

“If we need you, we will have your advice and support. We have made a titanic effort.”
