Barcelona coach Xavi: We were disappointing for Athletic Bilbao draw

Barcelona coach Xavi admits they were disappointing for their 0-0 draw at Athletic Bilbao.

Barca missed the chance to gain ground on leaders Real Madrid, which also drew on the weekend.

Xavi said: “I think we didn’t play a good game, we didn’t attack well. We should have taken a step forward. We’re not sad. We haven’t given the best version. The game required more from us. It’s a missed opportunity. The team could have done more. We haven’t hit the table.

“It has been difficult for us to progress, to understand winning the duels… we have not been comfortable. We are not satisfied. We have to improve a lot. It was a great missed opportunity. I don’t have a good feeling. Disappointed. This happens. There are ugly games… no we attacked well. The positive point is that defensively we were good.”

Pedri and Frenkie de Jong both suffered injuries on the day.

Xavi added: “It has been a disgrace, we will see the extent of it. The injuries do not look good and they have affected us.

” There are two absences that will be for several games. It is a sad day. There are two decisive players. Pedri was very good again. It’s a shame. And Frenkie is also decisive. It’s a shame. We will miss them, today we already did it.

“It is a tremendous misfortune, two midfielders are injured.”
