Barcelona coach Xavi on Rayo draw: We have to change our mentality

Barcelona coach Xavi says their “mentality” must change after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano.

Barca needed a Florian Lejeune to cancel out Unai Lopez‘s opener for Rayo.

Xavi said, “I think there have been two halves. In the first, we dominated but we were not aggressive. In the second, we created chances. We have scored a goal and we could have achieved more.

“I stay with the second. But here we go with emergencies. It is a difficult field. We have to win these games if we want to win the league. If we want to win titles, we have to change our mentality. You have to do self-criticism. Leagues are won on these fields. We have to wake up and improve.

“The mentality of the second half is good, but you already have an urgency. It’s already a little late. You have to go for the game from the first minute. In the second, you can see that you are going to win the game, in the first only at times. We have to change the mentality of going to win the games.

“The fact of giving away things, goals… is penalizing us. There are many games in which we have to come back. We have to improve.”
