Barcelona coach Xavi doesn’t blame De la Fuente for Gavi injury

Barcelona coach Xavi says he doesn’t blame Spain boss Luis de la Fuente for Gavi’s ACL injury.

Gavi was injured against Georgia in what was effectively a dead rubber with Spain having already qualified for Euro2024.

Xavi said: “I have a good relationship with De la Fuente. I see a calendar problem, that Gavi with his age has played a lot. It is not a coach management problem. It was a misfortune. At the moment there is no news about a substitute.”

Ahead of facing Rayo Vallecano, Xavi also confirmed goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was injured.

“He will not be there. Iñaki will play. He is prepared and I am absolutely confident in him. He trains very well.”
