Ilkay Gundogan‘s sudden abandoning of Barcelona‘s delegation on the Ballon d’Or red carpet has been explained.
Gundogan set tongues wagging last night as he abruptly walked out of a group photo involving Alejandro Balde and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, along with vice-president Rafa Yuste.
The decision appeared to leave Balde visibly baffled and speculation was raised that Gundogan’s anger after defeat at home to Real Madrid had carried on in Paris.
However, Mundo Deportio says there was an innocent explanation for Gundogan’s swift departure.
Sources state the Germany international was notified at that time by event organisers they did not have a photograph of him alone and they needed one to use on their social networks for when it was to be announced where he had finished in the vote. As such, Gundogan agreed to the individual shot, leaving the group photo in the process.
