Departing Barcelona fullback Jordi Alba: President and coach left decision to me

Jordi Alba has explained his decision to leave Barcelona.

The fullback will leave this summer a year before the end of his current deal.

Alba said today: “It is a considered decision. When I said that I wanted to stay and fulfill my contract, it was true, but we have spoken with the club and the best option was to step aside. From there, I have seen many people who have supported me a lot.

“As of today I have nothing with any club and I have not spoken to anyone, because I wanted to stay at Barcelona. I wanted to stay, but the years go by and this year I have had a different role, which is no less important. I thought that we had to give way to young people.

“Everyone has their opinion and I have always tried to help the club. I think it’s the best. My relationship with the coach, the president, my teammates and everyone at the club is excellent. I leave calm, knowing that I have given everything for the club of my life. It hasn’t been all smooth sailing, but I’m leaving with my head held high. There is one game left in my field, which will be very special for me and also for Sergio (Busquets).

“The president and the coach gave me the opportunity to decide what I considered. And so I have done it, it is meditated. It is clear that I have been wrong at times, but the people who know me know what my values are: humility, work…”
