Espanyol captain Darder: We must die for this shield; Barcelona win cut us deep

Espanyol captain Sergi Darder has rallied teammates after defeat at home to Barcelona.

The loss leaves the Catalans fighting against relegation.

Darder said: “There are four games left, four finals, and we have to die for this shield, not in words but in deeds.

“It will probably be the toughest defeat of the entire season (against Barca). We knew what we had at stake. We couldn’t have more motivation, there were many incentives to go out and die, but on the field, which is where things are shown, we weren’t up to the task in the first-half.

“Words are useless. It is a hard day, very hard, for those of us who feel this shield, seeing this team win at home is complicated, beyond what we have at stake and that, whatever the rival, it was losing a final.”
