Barcelona coach Xavi: I won’t shut-up – the sun bothers me!

Barcelona coach Xavi stands by criticism of Getafe‘s pitch last week.

Xavi complained about the turf and the sun after the 0-0 draw.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash with Atletico Madrid, the coach said: “I am criticised for everything and the sun bothers me, no matter how many memes get made about me.”

In addition to the sun, he added on the state of the pitch: “The dry pitch doesn’t benefit us or the spectacle. The question is for Quique (the Getafe coach), why he didn’t water the pitch? Why not cut it when it was higher than usual? I won’t stop. Until there is a rule, I won’t shut up.”

The coach gave examples like “golf, which is not played if the grass is not good; in tennis, if it rains, they stop; Lebron James doesn’t play if the court is wet and they mop it dry. I won’t shut up. The surface is fundamental.”

“They say that young people don’t watch a whole match, they can see three chances… maybe we would have drawn all the same in Getafe, we don’t talk about results.

“They say that Xavi talks when he loses, no, also when he wins. If we want a spectacle, we need to take care of the pitch. I don’t like playing in the sun and I’ll say the same after 200,000 memes.”
