Barcelona president Laporta: There is a campaign aimed at trying to control us

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has hit out at the game’s authorities over the Negreira case.

Laporta says he will soon hold a media conference to explain all.

He said at a forum yesterday: “We have a press conference in which we will talk about this issue. Barcelona have never bought referees and Barcelona have never had the intention of buying referees. Absolutely never.

“The forcefulness of the facts contradicts those who try to change the story. We are doing well again, nothing is casual. There is a campaign to damage Barcelona‘s interests.

“It is a campaign aimed at controlling the club. LaLiga does not accept that Barcelona did not sign the contract with CVC.

“We are aware that we cannot govern with levers. Lately there has only been negative news about Barcelona,” he said.

“Now they don’t like who we have hired for the Camp Nou renovation…. I would say it has to do with the Super League.

“We are starting to do well, we have saved the club financially and we can’t go on with the levers. We have to make a viability plan,” he said.

“What I’m seeing is that there is only negative news and articles that I’m not going to talk about.

“We defend this model of ownership by the members. This is what motivates me the most. We have to defend Barcelona‘s interests and it is difficult for them. Barcelona will not enter into another ownership model.

“They want us to be economically scapegoated in order to end up as a public limited company. I see attempts, but they are not sufficiently truthful.”
