Barcelona coach Xavi: I never sought to insult Cueta

Barcelona coach Xavi insists he never sought to insult Cueta after their Copa del Rey draw.

Barca face Cueta tomorrow night in the Copa, with Xavi having upset the minnows by stating the Blaugrana had been “lucky” to be paired with them.

The Barca coach said today: “I am sorry it was taken like that. I try to have respect. I said it based on the division. But we know that it will not be easy.

“I have all the respect for José Juan, the Ceuta coach.

“They want to play and push. It’s going to cost us. I have been to Ceuta and I know how difficult that is.”

Xavi also said: “What suits us well is having the experience of Intercity so as not to fail. The most important thing is to compete well. We arrived at the best moment of the season, but that should not deter us from our goals.

“You have to play a good game to show the superiority we have. For us it is important to give continuity to the success of the Supercopa.”
