Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati: Why I turned down Real Madrid

Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati has recalled past trials with Real Madrid.

The forward revealed that tried out for Real Madrid, but that his decision to join Barcelona in 2012 had a lot to do with the Catalan club’s superior facilities at that time.

“At that time, [Real Madrid] didn’t have a residence for their young players and that’s why we decided that La Masia was the best option,” he said.

“I remember seeing the La Masia building as we approached and, the closer we got, the more nervous I felt.

“At first, I wasn’t sure I wanted to come but, after a week, I didn’t want to leave!

“Marc Serra, my first coach at La Masia, quickly made me understand what the club I had joined was like and that, during matches, I had to respect my opponents.

“He also encouraged me to score more goals.”
