Barcelona are bringing forward new contract talks for Ousmane Dembele.
Sport says Dembélé suffered a bad World Cup ending with France. Despite everything, Xavi Hernandez considers him essential for the project as a player who can make a difference, and the Blaugrana club is ready to renew his contract that expires in 2024. The negotiations were not planned to be addressed until the end of the season, but now could be advanced to February.
The Blaugrana want to send a clear message of support to the footballer, betting on him for the future. Dembélé finally chose to stay once his previous contract ended, although there were many tensions with his people, breaking negotiations several times. Finally, a short contract was agreed with a low release clause.
At Barça they also believe that it is a good time to strike, because Dembélé might not arouse as much interest in the market now, so there would be much less interference in the conversations.
Barça do not want to enter into any bidding war or start the next season without having renewed his deal, to avoid all the problems that occurred in the previous renewal.
