Barcelona chief Cruyff: Xavi told us to ‘calm down’ about new contract talks

Barcelona chief Jordi Cruyff says coach Xavi has told them there’s no need to rush new contract talks.

Cruyff insists all parties are satisfied with the situation.

He told Mundo Deportivo: “I think Xavi is the first to know the world of football. Above all, he knows Barça better than any of us and he has also publicly said to calm down, that we are halfway through the season, that we are thinking of meeting the objectives that we dream of or that we want to achieve and when it has to be discussed, it will be discussed.

“But today, peace of mind. Obviously we’re delighted with him. It’s just that people sometimes forget. The squad has changed a lot and that sometimes requires time to bring together new players in a very special club, different from all the others and the demands are too.

“Trying to make a set that works from the beginning is very difficult and that often comes with ups and downs. I think that Xavi, in that sense, is doing a very good job and I think that he is happy and so are we. I think that Barça, in general, has been happy at the break despite the disappointment in the Champions League, but he has been happy with how the team is working in the League. ‘

“Of course there are points of improvement, because there always are, but I think people are happy because we have had a moment of stability and we hope to continue with this.”
