Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is back in Uruguay after the World Cup.
He will have some days off there before returning to Barcelona. Araujo never played, having joined the Uruguay squad with a thigh injury.
“It was obvious that Barcelona didn’t want me to force it, and the national team, within the (recovery) periods, wanted me to try and be there and help,” he said.
Araujo said that the situation carried “quite a lot of tension”, and that he tried his best.
“I sped up to get well and arrive at the next games, but unfortunately, it didn’t come to pass.”
Uruguay were eliminated at the group stage.
