Barcelona selling De Jong to Man Utd for record fee

Barcelona are ready to sell Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United.

Marca says should Barcelona clinch a deal to sell De Jong to Manchester United, his €80m sale will become the second most expensive transfer in the club’s history after that of Neymar.

The Brazilian forward had departed the club for Paris Saint-Germain, who triggered his €222m release clause in 2017.

Barcelona offloaded Arthur to Juventus in exchange for €72m plus €10m in variables, but Miralem Pjanic was included in the deal as a makeweight, which means that the club made €12m plus five in bonuses.

In the past, Luis Figo had joined Real Madrid for €60m, while Paulinho departed Barcelona for €50m.

De Jong arrived at the Camp Nou in the summer of 2019 in exchange for €75m plus another 11m in variables. After scoring two goals and registering four assists in 42 games in 2019/20, he played 51 games, scoring seven and assisting eight goals the next season.

Last term, he participated in 47 games, netting four times and recording five assists.
