Agger regrets Liverpool blocking Barcelona move: Could’ve extended career

Dan Agger admits some regret after Liverpool blocked him from joining Barcelona.

An offer from Barca arrived in 2013, but the Reds refused to do business with the Catalans.

Agger told Bold: “Yes, I am (sorry), because if I had changed, I would have played for many more years. I had at least played four / five more years maybe. But I can not use it for anything now. I can easily look back on it and think it was some s***, but I can not change it. So there is no need to spend time on it.

“I saw the move to Barcelona as an opportunity to try something different and play for the world’s best and biggest club at the time. It was a huge opportunity to try a different type of football as I had had some issues with my body.

“I could get to a place where it was a little warmer and where the game was not so physical. It might have helped me in the end too, but since that opportunity was no longer there, I was fully focused on what I had in front of me.”

Agger would be forced to hang up the boots three years later in 2016 due to injury problems.
