Polisi Tanzania 2-1 Namungo: Administrative side complete double over their opponents

The Caf Confederation Cup representatives are now placed 12th on the table with 28 points

Namungo’s struggles in the Tanzania Mainland League in the ongoing campaign were extended on Thursday as they fell 2-1 to their hosts Polisi Tanzania at the Ushirika Stadium in Moshi on Thursday.

Kassim Haruna and Gerald Mathias Mdamu scored for the administrative side with Fred Tangalo striking the lone goal for the visitors.

Having won the last meeting by a solitary goal, Polisi were aiming at completing a double over the 2019/20 FA Cup finalists who had hoped to avenge the defeat.

The hosts started the game on a high and were rewarded after just seven minutes. Marcel Kaheza passed the ball to Darwesh Saliboko. The latter crossed the ball into the danger zone and defensive lapses allowed Haruna to control it before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper with ease.

Polisi doubled their advantage in the 19th minute. Mdamu was let loose about 20-yards from goal and he unleashed a fierce shot that hit the inside of the crossbar before bouncing in goal.

The goals ensured the Moshi-based charges went into the break with a two-goal advantage.

In the 57th minute, Tangalo reduced the deficit when his seemingly harmless low drive found the back of the net. But Polisi were resolute to ensure they completed a double over Tanzania’s Caf Confederations Cup representatives.

Polisi are seventh on the table with 34 points, six more than Namungo who are placed 12th.

In another game played on Thursday, Ihefu FC defeated 10-man Mbeya City by a solitary goal.

Andrew Simchimba scored the lone goal to silence their hosts and revive their hopes of playing in the league beyond this season.
